Almost everyone agrees that better public transport is important. With Melbourne growing by over 1000 people every week, it’s clear that more and better public transport is essential.

It’s good that the Brumby Labor Government has plans for the biggest investment in transport since World War II. But many in the community remain concerned that public transport projects are taking too long and may not reach the people that need them most.

Supported by local councils, pt4me2 is getting better public transport for local communities. We want the Brumby Labor Government to bring forward existing public transport projects, commit to new projects and accelerate plans to move freight off local roads and onto rail.

Tarneit rail link and Werribee train services

  • Build the Tarneit rail link as an electrified suburban service by 2014.
  • Improve service frequency and reliability on the Werribee line, with trains every 15 minutes at least throughout the day.
  • Increase staffing at train stations to improve community safety.
  • Read our fact sheet on the Tarneit line
Better buses and better connections
  • Improve bus frequency and speed, with buses having priority on roads.
  • Fast frequent services connecting activity centres.
  • More services on evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Upgrade bus interchanges including Moonee Valley and Footscray
  • Quality bus route along CityLink and Tullamarine Freeway to CBD with appropriate park and ride facilities.
  • New bus service to East Avondale Heights
  • Access and mobility improvements at Moonee Ponds modal interchange
  • Tram routes in Melbourne west should be extended (Tram route 57 and 59 for Moonee valley)
  • Read our fact sheet on better buses.
Bacchus Marsh and Sunbury electrifications Support one or all of these crucial projects by signing our online petition before 30 September 2008.
