Join the petition for better public transport in the East

Residents of Rowville, students at Monash and families in Knox would all benefit from the construction of the Rowville Rail link.
Promised decades ago, this missing link in Melbourne’s rail network is well and truly overdue.
The proposed Rowville Rail link would connect Huntingdale Station with Monash University (Clayton), Mulgrave, Waverley Park and Stud Park. It will relieve traffic congestion by taking many cars off local roads.

Successive Victorian Governments have told residents of Melbourne’s outer east that buses will solve their transport problems.
But only rail can compete with car travel times – not to mention skyrocketing petrol prices.
Currently bus routes into the CBD take between 1-1.5 hours.
Rowville Rail would cut this commuting time to around 30 minutes with the train from Rowville to Monash University taking just 10 minutes.
It would cost you around $50 a week to take the train from Rowville into town.
Compare this with almost $200 in petrol and running costs to drive the same distance (based on RACV rates of reimbursement (small car up to 2.0 L engine), driving 60km return trip from Rowville to CBD 5 days a week ).
The Victorian Government needs to undertake a detailed feasibility study of the Rowville Rail line, and commit to a timeline for construction before the next state election in 2010.
The Federal Government could contribute funding to the project and make a real difference to the problem of climate change.
